Today
In May of 2007, Jack Kemp spoke with historian Richard Norton Smith about his life and career. The former New York State Representative was Bob Dole’s vice presidential running mate in 1996. After that unsuccessful bid, Kemp remained active in the Republican Party until his death from cancer in May of 2009.

A group of U.S. Navy ships, surprised and engaged by a superior Japanese battleship force, fought gamely and ultimately won the day, protecting Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s invasion fleet.
