The Lincoln Memorial was rededicated to mark the 2009 bicentennial of Pres. Abraham Lincoln’s birth. The memorial was originally dedicated on May 30, 1922. Speakers include Interior Sec. Ken Salazar, Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission co-chairman Harold Holzer, and Tuskegee Univ. Pres. Benjamin Payton.

Lincoln scholar & author James Swanson presented a retelling of the events of April 14, 1865, when assassin John Wilkes Booth shot Pres. Lincoln. Hosted by the Newseum, this event takes place on the 144th anniversary of the Lincoln assassination.

In 1939, contralto Marian Anderson was denied the opportunity to perform in DC's Constitution Hall, she subsequently held the concert Easter Sunday on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission commemorates this landmark event with mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, the women's a capella group Sweet Honey in the Rock, the Chicago Children's Choir and the U.S. Marine Band. Gen. Colin Powell (Ret.), former Sec. of State and chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, also makes remarks.
